Document Summary

When discussing about the development of an organism, we are essentially studying all processes relating to how a multicellular organism, forms from a single cell. Development occurs throughout the lifespan (embryogenesis, maturation into adult form and continues until senescence). It is a progressive and continuous change - that occurs from the following factors stated below. This includes: homeostasis maintenance, adaptation to the environment, production of germ line cells, and how the species evolves. Regeneration - stem cells vs somatic cells: define: Gamete: a specialized reproductive cell, which sexually reproducing parents pass on to their offspring. Zygote: a fertilized egg with a diploid chromosomal complement in its zygote nucleus generated by fusion of the haploid male and female pronuclei. Blastomere: a cleavage stage cell resulting for mitosis. Morula: typically a ball of 16-64 cells - looks like a mulberry. Blastula: early stage embryo consisting of a sphere of cells, surrounding an inner fluid filled cavity - blastocoel.
