Evolution Lecture 1 Intelligent Design Theory Intelligent Design  Theory (IDT) ­ An alternative “scientific theory” to explain biological origins  and complexity o Holds that the biological complexity apparent in nature  cannot be explained by Darwinian evolution,  o Heavily promoted by the discovery institute and center  for cultural renewal ­ States that any complex structure is the result of an intelligent  designer.  ­ A single system is made of several parts that contribute to  its function, removal of one of those parts causes cease of  functioning Who came up  ­ William Paley with IDT? ­ Is devoid of the requirements of a  What’s wrong  scientific theory with IDS? o No tested hypothesis,  unsubstantiated by data,  observation and experimentation.  o Its inconsistent so it cannot be regarded as a scientific  theory o 2 Q scientists
