Document Summary

Kidney: plays a role in the excretion of endogenous and exogenous wastes, secreted endocrine signals like erythropeotin, renin, etc. Ecf volume: plasma osmolarity, ion balance, plasma ph. Renal cortex: contains bowman"s capsules, proximal and distal tubules. Renal medulla: contains loops of henle and collecting ducts. Nephron: functional unit of the kidney, millions of them are in the kidney, lter blood plasma. Cortical nephron: super cial nephron, mostly in the cortex. Juxamedullary nephron: mostly in the medulla, long loop of henle. Vasa recta: long straight capillaries around the loop of henle, continuous with peritubular capillaries. Filtrate: 100% of ltrate volume at bowmans capsule, iso-osmotic with blood plasma. Renal corpuscle: consists of the glomerular capillaries and bowmans capsule, location of ltration. Filtration fraction: %the percentage of total plasma volume that enters bowmans capsule from the glomerulus (about 20%) the rest will exit the glomerulus via efferent arteriole.
