Crete greek island is the center of the advanced civilization (minoan) They are not a greek civilization because they did not speak it. Known for its large palaces with open courtyard in the middle. Did not glorify war in their artwork so they were thought to be peaceful. Mycenae was the mainland town the civilization was based off of. Syclopaze = a name for a giant because they thought only giants could move the big boulders to make the walls. Good at art portrayed hunts/wars unlike the minoans. Some tablets recorded for economics and manufactured in the palace. Also listed the gods (which foods were sent to which temples) therefore centuries before the first writing of the myths they must have used the same names for the gods in the mycenaean bronze era. Palaces were emptied and citizens forgot how to read/write eventually. Disruptions (myceaneans got hit the hardest around 1100)
