Eratosthenes: mathematician, geographer, the librarian at alexandria in 246, established cartography (drawing maps, estimated the circumference of the earth. Ctesibius: came up with study of ballistics, came up with using compressed air for a power source and not just steam. The greeks were a minority everywhere outside the aegean. Alexandria and antioch were important cities but they were on islands so they were secluded. Therefore it"s hard to discern between native and immigrant greeks.
