CS 348 Winter 2010 Project Phase 1Data Model 1 Overview At the end of the second phase of this project you and your project team are to produce an online software system that will enable a user to access and update information about symphony orchestrasYour system must be able to represent the following dataEvery symphony orchestra includes four sections woodwinds eg flutes clarinets oboes bassoons brass trumpets trombones horns tuba percussion drums timpani xylophone triangle chimes etc and strings first violins second violins violas cellos double basses and harpAn orchestras roster of players can include between one and 20 players for each type of instrument eg there is usually at most one harpist but there are often three or four horn players and as many as 16 or 18 first violinists Even though most players play one instrument only some may play several instrumentsEvery orchestra has one principal conductorAn orchestra typically plays several concerts each year each concert consisting of a sequence of three to eight pieces of musicEach piece of music has a title and a composer A concert might be repeated on several dates in various locationsSome concerts have a guest conductor for the whole concert and some pieces of music require a guest soloist for that single piece only Here are some facts you should be able to support in your databaseJohn Helmers is a cellist for the KW Orchestra and Edwin Outwater is the principal conductorOn September 24 and September 26 2009 the second piece played by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra was Brahms Violin Concerto in D Major Op 77 with Joshua Bell as guest violin soloist for that pieceThe Alabama Symphon
