Academic writing is not effective if singular nouns are used because there is then the problem of he or she" or his or her" in the words that follow. Change the bolded nouns and pronouns in order to create the third-person plural perspective. Carefully consider the use of any articles (a/an/the), the verbs that connect to the nouns or pronouns, and any nouns that should be changed to plural. Try to avoid the use of the word.
