Know the client: understand the client specific needs for a tech document. Style: get all the necessary subject matter info. Small printing company with 100 employees 50 do printing, 30 are it technicians, 20 are data entry personnel. Purchased a new state of the art digital printing press. Work environment is hectic and not always lit. What kind of document are you going to prepare: digital document via html (easy to link) What information is crucial: operation maintenance, troubleshooting, assembly information. What is the level of competence of the end user: low level. Understand but need to know how to apply it. Sections (not exhaustive: product description, table of contents, safety info. Crucial if assembly is required: assembly info. Presented in a step by step with diagrams: operational info, maintenance info. Maintenance is linked to troubleshooting: troubleshoot/faqs.
