The manuscript evidence of the textual history of frankenstein but there is other evidence as well (for example mary shelly"s journal) The origin of the story, byron and percy together in villa, raining, telling ghost stories for entertainment [ creation story of frankenstein] Some of 1816-17 draft survive (most of two notebooks) Fair copy which very little actually survives. Proofs were accepted after a few rejections. Went through round of proofs and revisions (we don"t have physical evidence) Was originally published anonymously with percy being the contact to the publisher. Percy was involved in correcting the proofs. Mary"s life was basically hell through this process [relatives dying, miscarriages etc. ] Originally supposed to be a two volume novel but was rearranged into a three volume novel. From 1818 the other textual evidence: copy of the first edition that mary shelly gave to a friend with some corrections in her hand.
