The stanley cup and the organization of hockey: 1893, governor general, lord stanley, donated a trophy to montreal victoria"s as champion senior team in canada. Hockey rapidly spread across canada during next 2 decades. Eastern canada competes for the star trophy. 1909 national hockey association: montreal canadiens, montreal wanderers, ottawa senators, quebec bulldogs, renfrew.
