Local women deliver the drugs instead of doctors: females job to look after the families, if positive results, people are then referred to go to a doctor. 3 reasons we still haven"t gotten rid of malaria. 1st: scientific: very complex system, different life stages of the parasite- hard to make medicines and vaccines due to huge variabilities. Parasitic infection that is spread between humans and mosquitos. Most common vector transmitted disease in the world. Leading parasitic cause of morbidity and mortality world wide. Symptoms: starts out with flu 8-30 days after the first infection, continuous fevers, shaking chills, sweating and brain damage that may lead to death. Documentary: in 2004 bbc showed the deadly effects of malaria: return to fever road. In the 1940s and 50s the west was able to remove malaria, but spread it to developing countries.
