The study of anthropometric (human measurement) is concerned with physical sizes and shapes of humans. Of paricular interest are the diferences between among diferent populaions ( men vs. women, european vs. japanese) Human variability: age, sex, racial and ethnic group, occupaional, generaional. From childhood to adulthood, stature of a person changes quickly. Other measurements such as weight and chest circumference may increase through to age 60 before declining. Adult men are on average taller and larger than adult women. Average, female dimensions are about 92% of corresponding adult male values. Diferent groups may have diferent average proporions. Diferences between those working in diferent occupaional groups. Growth in stature of american populaion of about 1cm per decade since 1920s, appears to be slowing or stopped now. Newer trends such as obesity should also be considered(*) Body weight changes oten due to water content. Stature may be reduced by up to 5cm, due to gravitaional compression on spinal disks.
