Document Summary

Normal physiological changes with age: some people define normal as anything with a normal distribution or something that is common. Lots of debate about this (some of the things we used to think was normal part of aging is beginning to change). We define normal as anything non-related to disease. Basic adls include: feeling, dressing, toileting, continence, mobility, bathing. What could have caused this: being sedentary, not cleaning oneself etc. there are major elements that affect disease risk for older people. Genetics and environmental exposure and just things that happen as you get older (age: connective tissues are everywhere; they give us shape and hold us together. Two main proteins called collagen (28 different kinds, connect in all different ways to make networks and are stiff, make us solid) and the other called elastin (is elastic): proteoglycans are proteins as well. And there are also structural glycoproteins that are usually within cell membranes.
