The napoleonic wars were deadly too, but compared to ww), it was child"s play. Unlike the napoleonic wars, wwi was spread out over a long time 4 years. There were battle scenes all over the world. People who were trying to prevent a war did not know what they were trying to prevent. More has been written on wwi than on any other topic in the history of the world. We don"t have to memorize all the chronologies of wwi. One reason people did not try to prevent wwi is because people thought it would be like any other european war. Europe was the franco-prussian war, not very big; soldiers got to display their honor and battle glory at the cost of very few lives.
