Maus author did not like the movie made a comic of a camp prisoner holding the oscar: finds that the movie was exploiting the holocaust. Historically, a lot of facts are inaccurate (a child wouldn"t have been able to be hidden and stick around, etc. ) Doesn"t have to be realistic to get the message across. It gives a chance for a broader audience *because* it"s not depressing. It"s a pleasant ilm delivers emotions, shows themes of strength, endurance etc. Jean amery assimilated jew, didn"t identify with his judaism. Joined the resistance, was later captured and tortured. Lying protects not just the innocence of the child, but also the innocence of the viewer (viewers may not have known that a ive year old child would"ve been gassed) We don"t want a movie dealing with the holocaust shielding the horror b/c historically children did not survive concentration camps.
