Lecture 16 – Observational Research What is it? • Non­experimental • Quantitative • Aim to find relationship (CORRELATIONAL, not causal) Can utilize the following data types • Cross sectional • Prospective • Longitudinal o A subtype of prospective design, has a very long follow up time  Ie. prospective follow up time (5 weeks)  Longitudinal follow up time (20 years) o In conventional sense, the difference between Longitudinal and  Prospective is that longitudinal has a much longer lag time in follow up  (post measure) than Prospective.
