Relevance to msds (in and out of work: msds are reaching epidemic proportions. Relevance to understanding research papers: many msd source literature, the incidence, prevalence, etc. of particular conditions. Incidence frequency of development of a new illness in a certain time frame (usually 1 year) Prevalence - the current number of people suffering from an illness in a siren time frame (usually 1 year) Manipulation control of exposure levels (or duration) Randomization use of chance to assign exposure conditions. Experimental: also interventional large control over subjects + exposures. Quasi-experimental: manipulation of exposures but not subjects. Congruity direct association between exposure + outcome: dose-response relationship. Plausibility are the best results reasonable (cid:1) (cid:1) Terms are all over the msd literature. You should understand: types of studies, interpretation of quantities, factors that affect study quality (cid:1)
