An explanation of the world, of what we see or think should happen in the world and were focusing on the social world. The goals of research are tired to the theoretical perspective. You use research to see if the theory is right. There may be instances when you don"t know something so you research it and then explain with a theory. Another reason is to understand social problems (syrian immigration process). The last reason is to explore personal experience (economic status). Don"t use research to do a biased issue. Definitions: tells us the important components in our theory. Descriptions of the phenomena of interest: describing characteristics. Relationship statements: core theory, things relate to each other, how things go together, and can be deterministic: certainty of one thing in relationship to another, probabilistic: looser statements of how things go together. As one thing changes another is likely to change.
