Theory: an attempt to explain or predict some event or phenomenon. Key different between a theory and an opinion judgement and beliefs that are not based on facts. A fact things that actually occurred, particular truths known by valid observation. Theories picture or general representation of how a phenomenon has occurred but just because you develop theory does not mean it is accurate. We differentiate theories by those that can be tested by scientific methods these theories can be wrong which is called false viability. Concepts central elements of theory and they provide label for specific phenomena of interest (ex. Intimacy, attachment, self-esteem) indicate why or how they are connected. Should define clearly define concepts and propositions provide compelling explanation of phenomenon and the following elements: coherence. Reasonableness or common sense without these, theories fail: verifiability. Has to be carried in a scientific way.
