Ls 272 - lecture 10 - jury selection. Day 11-49 = 40 dollars a day. Day 50-99 = 100 dollars a day. A lot of people won"t make it into the jury because they cannot afford it due to external circumstances. Self-employed, unpaid leave, small business owner, etc. Anybody with a conflict of interest cannot be part of jury duty. Anybody working in emergency services will also be pardoned from jury duty. Must not have been on a jury in the last 3 years. Lawyers have the opportunity to reject certain jurors. The number of rejections is case dependent. Types of people lawyers don"t want on the jury. Normative prejudice (people may feel compelled to follow a normative standard) Specific prejudice (attitudes and beliefs towards the case) Interest prejudice (the juror has some stake in the outcome) Understand the evidence and how to weigh it. Want to let the evidence determine the judgment as best as possible.
