The workers were allowed to work on that land on a contract basis in exchange they handed over fruits of their labour, animal, grains and it was taxed by the feudal landlords. Karl marx referred to the rich as the bourgeoisie. Looked at feudal owners, as exploiters and the laborious population were the exploited because they kept little of what they earned. Most people lived of the land in rural areas and small villages under the control of the lord who controlled rules, mobility, collected fees for marriages and also appointed law enforcement oicials. Before rules and laws customs were what deined right & wrong.
