Leadership is the ability to influence a group towards the achievement of goals. Induces compliance: control strategies for subordinates, supports status quo. Understand leadership, one of the parts we can focus on is trait theories: Trait theories- none traits guarantee success of a leader. Traits are characteristics of the person: physical characteristics, abilities, personality traits. Traits consistently associated with leadership: ambition and energy, the desire to lead, honesty and integrity, self-confidence, job-relevant knowledge, intelligence, emotional intelligence possession of the five component, self-assurance, self-management, self- motivation, empathy and social skills. This is needed doesn"t matter how great you are. Behavioural theories of leadership -propose that specific behaviours differentiate leaders from non- leaders: ohio studies they look for: Initiating structure : task orientation, production orientation within the firm. Production orientated leaders (repetitive work): lot of turn over, absences, and lower level of job satisfaction: michigan studies: Employee orientated leaders = higher group productivity and higher job satisfaction.
