PACS201 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Konrad Lorenz, Nature Genetics, Structural Violence
Document Summary
A lot of us wouldn"t be here without destructive con ict in other parts of the world. 1. 0 post ww1 - peace researchers start trying to understand how to avoid another ww. 2. 0 1960s - emergence of a distinction between negative peace (absence of war) and positive peace(presence of justice, absence of structural violence) 3. 0 1990s - direct-structural-cultural model for understanding both violence and peace. Three pointed triangle to explain violence and peace- all words have different types of violence and peace. Most were intrastate (largely taking place within the borders of individual states) - however, they can be kinda messy and bleed into other countries (civil wars) This causes con icts to happen in clusters of states or to be generally located in one part of the country. Inter-state - two nations against one another. Majority of armed con icts were in africa (#2 = asia, #3 = middle east)
