We are conditioned to think power= violence. When normal means fail = pressure to fall back on violence. Govnt is ultimately based on consent and obedience. By withdrawing consent, people can reclaim power (people power) Violence can only ensue when people continue to say yes and not go against the dictator. Achieving, without harm, the things that are thought to be normally unattainable only through violence. Active refusal to use or submit to violence in the pursuit of social change. Moral jiu jitsu (using someone else"s power and strength against them) Asserting ones moral or political claims without violence. Letting the means chosen by adversaries undermine itself (means = message) Exp. dealing with people in sit ins - ie they abuse the people preforming the sit ins, makes the laws around the issue seem less legitimate. Exp. sit-ins, fast, nonviolent occupation, parallel government. Conversion - change of heart and mind. Accommodation - concessions granted, compromises granted on both sides.
