5 world order explanations of conflict and violence: When politics is reduced to immediate interest or to a struggle for power, conflict may become violent and destructive. Suggests difference in how we prepare for peace vs. how we prepare for war. Says pp misdiagnoses the roots of conflict, violence, and peace another does not necessarily guarantee a balance of power or stable state of deterrence. Suggests addressing some underlying issues to allow us to build confidence. Preparing for peace by preparing for war takes up valuable resources, prevents us from addressing shared problems cooperatively, and adds to international disorder and distrust. World order prescriptions for peace: intentionality, and design: conception of peace is not just negative or direct, but instead includes a structural dimension ( = positive peace) Proactively and directly work for a more peaceful world through choice, many things that make for a decent existence, including economic well-being, social justice, human rights, and ecological sustainability.
