Equity/Diversity Plans 1) Bare Minimum is Non-Discrimination (which is the law): a. Non-discriminiation means that differential treatment can only be justified on grounds materially related to the job, such as competence, and merit. Differential treatment based on reasons irrelevant to the job – such as race, gender, religion, sexual, orientation – is illegal and violation of rights 2) Equity Hiring/Promotion Practices: a. The law for public sector and private sector bidders on government business  others volunteer only b. Violation of equity: fine is $10,000 c. Series of violations  max fine is $50,000 Different Kinds: (only must prove you have a program in place) 1) Points: weakest system because it is just points up front, employers have at their discretion how many points 2) Quota: reserve a certain percentage of work force for each of the four groups.
