Document Summary
Anthropocentric (human concerned) vs. nonanthropocentric (do not just think about humans) ethical extentionism. Speciesism: an arbitrary preference for one"s own species. Soul humans are the only ones with souls. Although, different religions believe in reincarnation therefore that other beings have souls. No clear boundary and hard to even prove is real. Reason what about those who do not have valid reasons? (children, mentally retarded, brain damaged, senile?) Bentham: the question is not, can they reason, but can they suffer? . > we assume others are in pain due to the connection we have with previous experiences of others. Slaughter houses animals who are not aware that they are being killed, works better because then the animals alive cannot witness it and start to suffer. Do humans have huge capacity of other pleasures and suffering in life. We want to maximise the good and pleasure that we know we can attain in life.
