40 views2 pages

Document Summary

A utopian community is an ideal society that poses highly desirable or near perfect qualities for its citizens. Various groups struggling under the pressures of industrialisation and urbanisation decided to challenge the traditional norm of society and created small settlements in the countryside that could be managed. The idea of this was to create a utopian society that provided people with ideal places to live. This in turn will influence people to become better. The purpose of the utopian community was to become independent, self-sufficient and sustainable. Common features of the 19th century utopian society included: limited population size. There was heavy emphasis on controlling the population of the society. This was to allow people to maximise the available resources in order to improve their standards of living. Moreover, population was controlled in order to limit the number of personalities in a community.
