Why: too many choices, many undesirable options, difficult to make the right choice. We are responsible for creating good environments, increase quality of life. Etc. this is why we need choice architects. Planners and policy makers make decisions about the organization and structure of space over time: big picture. Developers, architects, engineers, real estate agents: small scale. Citizens use space and make demands on our space: experience. Libertarianism (individual choice) vs. paternalism (forced choice: freedom to choose (individual); independence/autonomy; full agency, enforced choice (collective); nanny-state"; little agency; structural. Libertarian paternalism: supportive decision making ( protective independence , unlimited choices, most desirable decisions are easier to make. Decision-making in a user friendly env: encourages making good decisions, but you can still make up bad decisions. Research, trial and error etc: we"re doing the best based on what we have/know now.
