Armistices established israel"s borders on most of the earlier british mandate of palestine. Jordan controlled arab east jerusalem and the west bank. These occupied territories made up about 25% of the total area of british mandate. Majority went to west bank and gaza strip. Br & fr didn"t want nasser to nationalize the suez canal. Br, fr, israelis plotted to retake the canal. Br and fr pretended to be mediators. When egypt refused to move away from the sc, plan was to attack egypt. Israel occupied the gaza strip w/drew in 1957. Us and ussr condemned br, fr, israel. May- nasser asks un troops to leave sinai. May- isr & egy mobilize troops in sinai. May- egy closes the gulf of aqaba to israelis. In 3 days, israel destroyed egyptian air force. Israel occupies sinai (egy), reaches suez canal.
