Document Summary
Process of memory involves getting info in (encoding or deciphering), storage of info (so can be retrieved), get info out when needed if possible. Each stage or process has problems, issues that limit capacity. Memory model not always chronological from sensory to short term memory to long term memory. Environment and situation play important role -> can attract attention. Become desensitized, won"t remember it later, (eg. remember that someone coughed) Foreground has chance to get into long term memory. Internal trigger -> control mechanism, can decide what you want to pay attention, can attach significance i want to see this , active process. External trigger -> usually a change in environment, disturbing desensitized stimuli. These triggers can be registered as short term memory. Can retain for a few seconds and then fades away. If didn"t pull out important thing, then forget. Remember what the last words he said, or what the last slide looked like.
