Can detect presence of your name, because it was important. Filter can move: high "cognitive load", moves the filter forward. In order to remember something, you have had to attended it. How do we conceptualize memory in psychology: what is memory?- reconstructive process: not a recording, memory has lots of errors, we reconstruct and rebuild the memory. What are the different processes of memory: encoding: enter information into memory. Storage: maintain information in memory: recall: retrieve information from memory. Forgetting: deficiency in one or more of these processes. Passive encoding: simple information may be encoded automatically (less effort, like watching a show/ listening and remembering most information) Active encoding: more complex information requires effortful encoding (course content, textbook) (more effort) Massed practice: learning proceeds over one long session (cramming before exam)
