Document Summary
Muscles relax (sometimes with sudden twitch or jerk [hypnic jerk]) Sensory equipment closes down 1st vision, 2nd hearing, then others. Neurological electrical voltage increases with more diffuse firings throughout the brain. Hypnagogic hallucinations brief, weird, unusual experiences just before falling asleep completely. Tend to be surprising; involving movement and red as dominant color. Most commonly a hallucination involving falling or stepping into space. Rem sleep - rapid eye movement sleep sleep that occurs at intervals during the night and is characterized by rapid eye movements, more dreaming and bodily movement, and faster pulse and breathing. Rem occurs even in infants, as well as all mammals. Eyes become rapid prior to/during rem excites motor neurons of eyes. Serotonin and norepinephrine levels drop and acetylcholine increases. Coherent but bizarre storyline manifest content - surface story of the dream; what you see latent content - deeper meaning to dream. Usually mundane; 50% easily linked to recent experiences.
