SELF FULFILLING PROPHECY – prediction that makes it come true 1. ROSENTHAL AND JACOBSON – TEACHER EXPECTANCY EFFECT  Teacher expectancy effect – went to classrooms and conducted a standardized test. Then they pick 5 students randomly and told the class that they’ll be bloomers/ get to do well the next year. And the students were actually doing well/ better after one year 2. ZANNA AND PACK – ATTRACTIVE GUY VS. UNATTRACTIVE GUY  Women (Ps) thought they will interact with the guy  Condiiton 1: Attractive Guy; Condiiton 2: Unattractive guy  The guy either likes traditional or Non-traditional women  Session 1 take sex-stereotypic trait ratings, and let them describe themselves with adjectives  Session 2 (3 weeks later) they meet guy and find out what he likes  Take sex-stereotypic trait ratings again and anagram test  Results:  Results 2: when he likes non traditional woman  Somebody’s expectation in your behavior or what they like in your behavior creates its own reality. 3. Word, Zanna, and Cooper – Stereotypes and self-fulfilling prophecy  Study 1 - Whites interview Blacks measure non-verbal behavior  Real subject: interviewers. Do the interviewers conclude that white and black candidates differ?  Distance of where they sit: Closer to the whites  Interview length: longer to the whites, cut off with the blacks  Speech errors: won’t screwed up with whites, and screwed up in blacks STUDY 2:  Confederates interview White subjects and treat them like the Blacks or the Whites were treated in Study 1  Real subject – the group of whites  When whites were treated as blacks, they pull sit further away  How friendly do they rate the interviewer? Interviewers were more friendly with
