Development refers to age related changes that occur as individual progresses from conception to death and occurs in a predictable sequence. Prenatal and childhood development includes that of the brain, cognitive abilities, morals, and attachment. The life-history theory is a typical pattern of decisions made by members of a species (each species differs slightly). This is the time between conception and birth. Migration along fallopian tube, implantation in uterine wall. Embryonic stage (2 weeks 2 months): Risk of miscarriage and birth defects is high. Bones and muscles develop which leads to movement. Organs begin to function, sex organs develop. Age of viability: 22 26 weeks. The environment during prenatal development is very important. Malnutrition increases risk of birth complications, neurological defects, schizophrenia.
