Document Summary
Psychology is the science of behavior and mental processes: everything that we do can be observed directly(any behaviors) and can be studied scientifically, emotions, thoughts, motives etc (private feelings, not public) can also be observed and studied. Psychologists use scientific principles to propagate their knowledge. History: life has meaning when we ask questions about life, when we study it, mind body connection, all our knowledge is linked to our experiences which are connected to our senses. Structuralism: analyze consciousness into its basic elements and investigate how they are related. Functionalism: knowing the contents of consciousness wasn"t enough, how it functions needs to be known, how the components of the mind worked together. Psychology has been evolving over the years: it is not about a theory, it is diverse: many ways to think about feelings, behaviors, psychological processes. Relationship between brain and behavior: behavior doesn"t happen in isolation, brain talks to the body.
