Memory stores- sensory memory, short-term memory (working) and long-term memory. Places where information is held and operated on. Each store is characterized by function ( role it plays in overall working of mind), capacity (amount of info it can hold), duration ( how long info can be held for. Governs processing info within stores and movement of info from one store to another. Sensory memory: the brief prolongation of sensory experience. Short-term store info in sensory store is that is attended to move into the next compartment. Each item fades quickly/lost within seconds when no longer attended or thought about. Momentary capacity of short term store is very small (and limited) but amount of info that moves through it is enormous. Long-term memory: the mind"s library of info info from short term store may not come into long term store.
