The study of child development is governed by: Young field compared to other parts in psychology. Research comes from the past 50 years. Research strategies: the researchers find out about all the domains using research strategies. Course is about research on how normal childrens develop. Self understanding: we are all children so by understanding the research we will understand ourself, where we been and where we are going. Reactions to children: we encounter children everyday and it is important to respond to them appropriately and it is hard to do that without knowing them. Th more you understand children, the more your impression on them will be appropriate and beneficial for them. Example 1: first week at junior kindergarten. One boy out of control: happened in waterloo, boy running around, screaming basically trying to escape the classroom. Teacher suspects language comprehension problem or major behavioural problem.
