Document Summary

Work and inequality: gendered work and assumptions 5b, 1c. Work and inequality: social determinants & structural inequities. Last week i had to get a document notarized. I called a near by law office to book an appointment. The receptionist who picked up the phone kindly booked a date and time for me to come in and meet with the lawyer. Somehow i knew that a female legal secretary would answer my call. After hanging up i had a strong feeling that the lawyer that i have an appointment with would be a male. Although this was my first time going to a law firm, these expectations had come from any office environment. For example, a doctor"s office, dental office and even an auto shop where the females work as a receptionist and the males take on a more superior role. Gender roles tell apart the social responsibilities of a male or a female.
