Document Summary
Approaches to motivation (5) 1x knowledge; 4x comprehension. Achievement orientation & anxiety (2) 1x comprehension; 1x application. See friends everyday, they have no choice, etc. But 3-4 weeks in, they don"t want to go to school anymore. Over time its not new anymore and they have more work and responsibilities: 5 factors of motivation: Choices: what choices you make- about behaviours, assignments, how you study, etc. Intensity: level of involvement, how much attention you give. Fear of failure- can result in either giving up or working harder. (ex. 18 month old skiing vs. 5 year old scared of skiing so just stops and refuses to move) If students can see value in what they are doing, then they will be more motivated. Approaches: behaviour skinner (extrinsic incentives and rewards/punishment, emphasis on external processes) engage bc they expect reward or engage because they want to avoid the negatives (ex. School failure: cognitive weiner (determined by thinking, emphasis on internal processes)
