One twin has mental disorder, 50% chance the other will develop one as well. Diathesis-stress model: individuals inherit genetic vulnerability (diathesis, experience predisposing (early in life) or precipitating stress (current, environmental stress interacts with genetics to predict mental disorders, ex. Small diathesis + large stressor: ex. History of eating disorder in distant relatives + dancer. Medium diathesis + medium stressor: ex. Large diathesis + small stressor: research support.
