Psych 317: lecture 2 thurs sept 14. Theories applicable to all areas of psychopathology. Psychological factors: psychodynamic, behavioral, cognitive, emotional, evolution. Have to look at all the factors in order to understand the cause. Interdisciplinary perspective is also called developmental psychology this model is a macro paradigm. The macro paradigm is the model and the micro paradigms are the specific causal explanations biological, psychodynamic, behavioural, cognitive, emotional, evolutionary, and family systems. Certain genes from parents can be passed on to children. In conflict with each of the psychosexual stages of development. Oral (0-1), anal (1-3), phallic (3-6), latency (6-puberty) and genital (puberty-adult): key to understanding mental illness, if there is anxiety in any of the psychosexual stages, they can cause severe distortions or result in obsessive thoughts. Any psychopathology is resulting from the conflicts between the id, the ego and the superego. If there is appropriate gratification at each psychosexual stage, you will have a well-adjusted adult.
