Sometimes people are not all that rational, we have goals that we want to pursue and doesn"t follow through the rational rules implied by early cognitive revolution. Goals and motivations are types of motivation and cognitive process. Need to let go of certain goals to keep up with one of those goals: often pursue one goal, come back to it later, and once you make progress you move on and so on. We end up adopting the goals of others as well. Strangers study: working for several months, more willing to put in hard work to make money themselves. Effect is much stronger around those that we are close with. Who felt connected were more likely to spend the time with them. When we feel connected to them, we end up letting go of the goals when people finish.
