My group, but not myself, to be a target for discrimination. Research finds higher self reported discrimination targeted to one"s group as a whole than themselves as individual members. Study focuses on haitian and south asian women in mtl both common targets of overt discrimination (denying personal discrimination would be problematic. They chose these groups b/c past studies people denied personal disc. ) Multiple discrimination : their different culture, immigrant status, gender. P"s questioned on personal and group discrimination on 4 dimensions: race, culture, status as immigrants, and gender. 32 25 yo women, 108 indian, 136 haitian. Indian p"s had high education (49% university), haitians were mostly college. Structured interview in homes with translator who read them questionnaire. Questions: regarding experiences as new canadians, interest in supporting cultural heritage, demographic, discrimination, privilege. Personal + group discrimination because of race, culture, immigrant status, gender results and discussion. Iv: ethnic group, 4 cause of discrimination, 2 discrimination target.
