And, consonant with this stance, the typical leisure studies textbook has, over the past 50 years or so, devoted little or no space to the question of deviant leisure. Leisure"s central determinants (i. e. activity done for its own sake and attributed to self without obligation or repercussion) mean that it is possible for individuals to choose leisure pursuits that are not necessarily wholesome or beneficial. Leisure"s darker side refers to activities that exist on the fringe (or outside of) the boundaries of social acceptability.
