Islam: root of words goes to s-l-m. Soundness and safety of way of life. Submission to god gives us peace and soundness in this world and wolrd to come. Person, who submits to will of allah. To be a muslim: person who confesses in two witnesses shahadah. I bear witness that there is no god except god and i bear witness that. Muslim is either person or inanimate life by nature (plant life, universe) Even though they don"t have soul, they submit to allah by instinct and virtue of physical laws of universe. Not worship of muhammad pbuh, only submit to will of god as recorded to muhammad pbuh. More than christian bible or hebrew bible. Quran can never truly be translated- not literally transition but conceptual one, but still will understand translation. Tradition about muhammad pbuh life and actions. Sometimes compared to development of oral torah.
