57 views4 pages

Document Summary

Sociology 101 (detailed note) deviance and crime: crime- any act forbidden by law, crime or criminal activity like exceeding speed limit- yes you may be charges. 150km an hour you can get your card taken away. We define some of this as deviant as well. Just because something is deviant doesn"t"t necessarily mean it is crime: example- laws around pot. Debate on whether or not pot for recreational use is deviant or not. Make a point that when we think about deviant behaviour it is socially constructed. Think about how our attitudes have changed over time about different things. Same sex marriage is not deviant now but not too long ago our attitudes were different. Smoking during pregnancy and it was not deviant years ago but now it is. If you say a clearly pregnant woman smoking and/or drinking you would think it"s not appropriate behaviour.
