Sociological imagination - c. wright mills: structure, history and biography, have to use an outsider lens (cultural bias, personal troubles vs. public issues. Micro vs. macro: exp. why do people update a status? why does this occur in society, personal troubles = re ect public issues. Divorce, poverty, crime etc: depression, insecurity etc. Set of statements used to explain/predict problems, events or behaviours (within a social context) Macro theoretical perspectives - examine society as a while and its institutions. Micro theoretical perspectives - symbolic interaction, feminist and post modern theory. Reasons for suicide were part of social life. Symbolic interactionism: we create our reality and understanding of the world by interacting with other people, microsociology. Sociology: back stage - internal feelings (hidden by impression management) Examine systemic discrimination against women and against other groups swell. Attempts to use all ve of the above sociological theories.
