Document Summary

A functionalist sociologist would explain the growing gap between the rich and poor in canada and other industrialized nations as a necessary social function. In order to assure that only the most qualified and capable individuals hold the roles of power and importance in society, they must be appropriately awarded for their abilities. A conflict sociologist believes that the gap between the rich and the poor exists due to the economic inequality of the society. The conflict that these two classes face arises from the rivalry that occurs between them. The feminist theory focuses on the societal differences between men and women. Gender is the factor that a feminist sociologist believes to be the factor of inequality in canada. The double ghetto, termed by pat and hugh armstrong, identifies full time women as being responsible for working another. In my opinion, feminist theory provides a very useful explanation for social inequality in canada.
