Soc 226 lecture 9 (sentencing young offenders) Ycja no possible change to transfer the youth to adult court. Rare for adult sentence criteria for this to happen. Can give a combination whatever is appropriate to the offence: ie fine and prison sentence. Stay at home or the community from where they"re from. Mandatory conditions: good behaviour can be interpreted in different ways. Judges have a lot of leeway in picking sentences. Fine is max because it"s hard for youths to pay. Over usually parents pay it and the philosophy of the fine would be useless. Reprimand (used in 3% of cases in 2011/12) Intensive support and supervision: no record that they"re found guilty, more resources are put into putting them into appropriate programs. Below usually given in combination: compensation, restitution, pay purchaser, prohibition. Key indicators survey; excludes quebec, due to missing data for some years. Procedure: 16+ option to get quebec on board.
